Yemisir Wet

Spiced Red Lentils - It’s one of Ethiopia’s most famous and staple vegetarian dish.

You'll need:

2 cups split red lentils

4 Medium red onions – finely chopped 🧅

1 cup olive Oil

1 cup of Taste of Addis Berbere

1 tsp. chopped garlic 🧄

½ tsp. chopped ginger

5 cups of Water

Prep time 20 min.

Cooking time 40 min.

*Wash, wash, wash the split lentils thoroughly, changing the water several times until the milky water is clear (split lentils are always very dusty – they get dusty during the splitting process!)

In America, we get them after the epic process, the outer skin is removed & split to reveal the red of the lentil. In Ethiopia, I always heard the dust will give you heartburn! ❤️‍🔥

Instructions:

1. Cook onions until water is dissolved - add olive oil and cook to golden brown.

2. Add Taste of Addis Berbere, ginger, garlic & 1 cup of water - keep stirring to prevent sticking until onions and berbere are thoroughly mixed.

3. Add lentils and the rest of the water mix thoroughly and simmer of 25 minutes.

4. Serve hot or cold, best served with Injera bread, good baguette or pita.
